Some Cochrane elementary school students received an advance viewing of the new production of Bow Valley High School performing arts earlier today that opens tonight at the Cochrane RancheHouse Theatre.

Madagascar: A Musical Adventure Jr., based upon the smash hit animated feature film, starts six-show run tonight with a 6 p.m. curtain time and promises to be fun for everyone.

In development since the start of the school year, the musical extravaganza has the whole family in mind. It's a massive production that involves 65 students plus school staff and volunteers.

The fun-loving musical follows the exploits of some crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

The beloved King Julien has it made in Madagascar.

Bringing the popular musical to the RancheHouse stage was done with Cochrane’s young family population in mind, explains director Adrienne Fossheim.

“One of the reasons is the demographic of Cochrane is kids. There are so many kids and families and we want to reach out to them with a really fun show.”

The senior cast takes to the stage on opening night, then reprise their roles for two performances on Friday, Feb. 8 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Junior Cast will be performing on Thurs. Feb. 7 with a 6 p.m. curtain time.

On the final day, Feb. 9, they will join together for two performances at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
