A break in the rain will go a long way in helping move along summer road projects of the Town of Cochrane.

The $2-million upgrade to the George Fox Trail is destined to gain steam, thanks to a weather forecast predicting less rain in the coming weeks.

Late last week, the project completion date was extended until Sept. 30. Over the next few months, motorists can expect lane closures and lane restrictions. Temporary pedestrian/cyclist detours will be required along the George Fox Trail and at the intersections of Bow Ridge Gate and at both ends of Bow Meadows Dr.

Besides resurfacing the roadway, the town is making pathway and ditch improvements and adding bike lanes along the major artery.

Ditch and pathway improvements were originally scheduled to be completed from June 10 to July 20 but were pushed back to a July 2 to Aug. 12 window. Road surfacing, including milling, paving and line painting, will follow from Aug. 12 to Sept. 20. By Sept. 30 all the finishing touches are expected to be in place, including signage and site cleanup.

Paving is scheduled for Griffin Road from mid-August to Sept. 1. Work will also continue throughout the construction season on the artery roads for the new bridge.
