The Children's Legacy Foundation Gift of Music program provides long-term mentorship and music lessons to help financially challenged and at-risk youth stay in school.

In Cochrane through the Boys and Girls Club, youth ages 9 to 24 receive gently-used instruments and participate in weekly music lessons with instructors to develop their musical talents and entrepreneurial skills.

Darryl Werham, CEO of the Legacy Children's Foundation, says the Gift of Music program has been extremely successful on keeping kids on track.

“We're 8o percent successful and we have been consistently every year since we been in operation. Eighty percent helping kids stay in school and on a positive life path.”

However, in this economy, the program is having difficulty raising funds to keep it going.

“We're really a program that people can feel like their investment is really making a difference and they know as well that we really utilize these dollars well.”

Wernham adds by helping kids finish school and stay on a positive life path they are not only helping the kids and their families, but helping society as well.
