Since Friday, August 20, Alberta has recorded 1,972 new cases of COVID-19.

Friday, August 21 there were 821 new cases reported.

Saturday, August 22 saw 678 new cases.

Sunday, August 23 added 478 new cases of that total, 333 or 69.81 per cent of the people infected were unvaccinated, 53 were partially vaccinated, and 91 were fully vaccinated.

The province now has 7,777 active cases with a positivity rate of 8.33 per cent.

Since Friday, hospitalizations have risen by 65 to a total of 244.

ICU admissions also increased by six for a total of 54.

Sadly, another five deaths were reported since Friday for a total of 2,348 in the province.

To date, 5.5 million doses of the COVID vaccine have been administered in the province. That means 77.3 per cent of Albertans have received one vaccination shot while 68.8 per cent of the province are fully immunized.

Cochrane is reporting 39 active COVID-19 cases while Rocky View County is sitting with 60 cases.  

The rising COVID-19 numbers are prompting large venues like the Scotiabank Saddledome and McMahon Stadium to require proof of vaccination to attend live events beginning in September.
