The Cochrane Generals have released Alex Bend to the Comox Valley Glacier Kings of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) in exchange for future considerations.

Bend played his minor hockey in Cochrane, then joined the VIJHL's Campbell River Storm last season. He appeared in 49 games with the Storm, including nine playoff games. He returned to Cochrane to play with the Gens this season but requested a release so he could finish the season in the VIJHL.

Gens head coach Kurtis Jones said Bend wanted to be on the ice every day, and that's something the Gens can't offer.

"It's tough because he's a good kid, but he asked and the Cochrane Generals is a club that wants players to be happy."

Bend had six goals and 20 assists in 25 games with the Gens and 29 penalty minutes. With his speed, work ethic, tight-checking, and hockey sense around the net, Bend was an impact player.

All teams in the HJHL are required to reduce their rosters to 23 players by today's deadline.
