Three Bow Valley Rugby Club (BVRC) players were among those competing for Calgary Mavericks teams in the Kamloops Sevens Tournament, Oct. 12-13.

Matt Lowe, Lucy Rockett, and Keeling Barrie played on three different Mavericks squads in a tournament that showcased the play of over 800 male and female players.

Matt Lowe won a bronze medal with the Calgary Mavericks U17 boys. Keeling Barrie was part of the U19 boys' squad that placed fourth out of seven teams.

Lucy Rockett was on the U19 girls' Maverick team that came sixth in a huge division of 16 teams. Lucy joined the BVRC after playing for the CobraCats high school team which won its first 7s banner this spring.

Daisy Shackley, who also plays for the CobraCats high school team, was on the U19 girls' team. She plays club with the Hornets in Calgary.

Rugby teams came from across British Columbia and Alberta for this fourth annual tournament. The matches last an intense 14 minutes. In total, 1,100 tries were made, an average of six per match.

Fifteen clubs claimed a spot on the podium. Alberta teams made seven podium appearances.

Tournament Director Darcy Patterson was full of praise for everyone who was involved in the event

“It is quite incredible to see just how much this tournament has grown in four short years," she says on the BC Rugby website. "It is a testament to the growth in age-grade rugby, particularly female players, as well as the hard work from the volunteers and local community. We know there is still room for growth and we’re excited to see just how popular the event will be in another four years."
