This week we raise our glass to our senior population.
For the past 31 years, communities across Alberta celebrate the unique contributions seniors' make to our community and the value they bring.
Christine Rezansoff, Seniors' Programmer for the Town of Cochrane, says seniors contribute to our community in many ways from time, talent, to life experience.
"It is an opportunity to celebrate them and all the vitality they have, and recognize all the seniors we have. We have a huge senior population in Cochrane and we want to recognize them and celebrate them this week."
Everyday this week (June 5- 11), there are free activities planned catering to a wide variety of interests in which community members can sign up for.
It is always a popular week, shares Rezansoff, most activities garner a big crowd. "The Senior's Tea is sold out like it is in every other year, that is a very popular event. We have lots of other events too that are drop in and we have space for as many people that can come, so lots of things to take part in."
With the addition of two new senior housing projects, Cochrane is becoming a community that can not only sustain our current senior population but attract new people as well.
"Cochrane's definitely a place that people want to come and live. It is close to a major centre, it is also beautiful here. They have access to the mountains and detached from the hustle and bustle they might have experienced for most of their life so it's a great place to retire."
All activities are sponsored by the Town of Cochrane Recreation, Culture, and Arts department and Seniors on the Bow of Cochrane and Area Society.
