Have you been curious to learn more about rugby? Here's a chance for youth to give it a try, free of charge and without having to make a commitment.

Weather permitting, a "Bring a Friend /Try Rugby" night is being hosted tonight (May 10) by the Bow Valley Rugby Club (BVRC) at the Mitford Pond playing field.

Anyone between ages 3 and 18 is welcome to try some drills and get a feel for what the sport is all about. There's no need to preregister, and all sessions are all noncontact.

The U5 to U11 players take to the field from 6 to 7 p.m. and the U13s and U15s follow from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

"I think for a lot of people who don't know rugby, the name rugby itself can be intimidating. They think of hard contact and all this stuff. Contact is a part of the game from U11 upward but this is a nice way to come and be assured there isn't going to be any contact. You get to try out the sport, and meet some of the people who are playing and just get a feel for the atmosphere there."

While you don't have to pre-register, for insurance purposes, participant information will be collected upon entry to the event upon arrival.

If anyone gets hungry, they'll be food trucks onsite where food and beverages can be purchased
