A 2-0 win over the Calgary Titans on Oct. 14 keeps the Cochrane Chaos tied for first in the south division of the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League.

The Chaos scored halfway through the first to take the lead and Cochrane's Alyssa McCasey scored the assurance goal midway through the third.

Chaos head coach Derek Loomer says the Chaos played hard right from the drop of the puck, something they had discussed beforehand. At practice, he told them they have 10 days off until their next game, so don't hold back.

"I thought they did a great job," says Loomer. "We were swarming all night, "We had a lot of good scoring opportunities, and their goalie played really well, or the score could have been a lot higher than it was."

He says the Titans have plenty of new faces on their roster and need time to find their chemistry.

"We overmatched them a little bit, but they've got some quality girls on there, so with a little bit of time to gel, I think they have a chance to be a strong team as the season goes on."

Titan goalie Madelynne Sherlock faced 62 shots with about 30 of them being quality chances and had a .968 save percentage on the night.

The shots may have been far and few between at the beginning, but the Titans did come hard in the dying minutes of the third to try to spoil the shutout of Chaos goalie Kaylee McKay, of Cochrane. She made some important saves to earn her second shutout of the season.

McCasey is in her first season with the Chaos after returning from the SAHA U18 Prep School. It was her second goal as a Chaos.

"I thought we kept possession for most of it and we had good pressure on them," she says. "I think we gave up a few odd-man rushes that could have been avoided, but overall, I think we did pretty good."

She's happy to be a Chaos and believes they have a strong team that will have a good season.

McCasey played her minor hockey in Cochrane before being selected by the Olds AA Bantam Grizzlys. She played 30 games, including playoffs with the SAHA U18 team last season.

After a weekend off, the Chaos face their top rival in the south. The Lethbridge Eagles are in town on Oct. 23, and the Chaos hunger for a little redemption. The Eagles shut out the Chaos, 3-0, earlier this month.

"Last time we played them I thought we didn't play as well as we could," says Loomer, "maybe underestimated what they were going to be this year and found out they have a quality team. I know our girls were talking about that after the game. Knowing the Eagles are up next, those 10 days can't come fast enough."

McCasey is one of those players looking forward to having another crack at the Eagles.
