Stefan Daniel was warmly welcomed by Cochrane Council when he stopped by Tuesday, October 11.

The Paralympic athlete brought home the silver medal from Rio de Janeiro, Paralympic games, which wrapped up September 18.

Daniel who has only been competing for the past few years was pretty pleased with his results.

"Rio was a pretty fantastic experience, I trained hard for it. I think I was able to improve through  the year and have a pretty good performance in Rio. it wasn't the perfect race but it was as good as I could do on the day, I am pretty proud of the silver medal."

With Daniel being the youngest competitor in the roster for Paratriathlon, he has a bright future ahead of him.

"I will try to make Tokyo, my goal would be to try to win there; but that is a long ways away, I still have four years. In the meantime I am going to try to pursue the able-bodied racing as much as I can and try to do well there. If I continue to do that I will develop more and more towards Tokyo."

Daniel says the hardest part of training hasn't been the physical aspect, but keeping a positive headspace.

"The hardest thing is the pressure of it, especially in the past year everything was kind of magnified with every race. Just the pressures of training and racing, but I have learned to deal with it and not focus on it too much."

For an upcoming athletes, Daniel says have fun with it.

"If you try to take the sport too seriously, too young you will often burn out and not enjoy it that much. If you like it, you will work hard, and enjoy yourself, and it could turn into a career from there."

Daniel is starting up cross country now and enjoying a little down time.
