Cochranites can add a new Christmas tradition to their lists, playing Cochrane-Opoly with their family.

We now have our very own custom Monopoly-style board game.

Outset Media, based out of Victoria, B.C. and Walmart partnered up to create a game based on iconic locations in our town. Instead of Boardwalk or Reading Railroad you can now purchase Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary or the Rockyview Hotel.

It also features locations like Riverfront Park, Cochrane Community Health Centre, Tim Bannister Memorial Rink and a traffic jam.

Jean-Paul Teskey, Sr. Vice President at Outset Media says they've found the games to be quite popular in smaller centres.

"We started with the usual suspects of Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal and they did well but we found that our best selling games were games that were in smaller cities and towns that seemed to really embrace the idea."

Businesses don't pay to be a part of the game, in fact they aren't even told they'll be featured on the board, so they were just as surprised as the rest of Cochrane when the game hit the shelves this week says Teskey.

"Instead of just streets, in the case of Cochrane we've got 5th Avenue, 3rd street and Centre Avenue but we also try to include local businesses and festivals. So we've got the Fence and Post in here and some other local businesses just to make it a little more custom and personal for people that are playing it."

"We do some research to make sure that any businesses that we do feature are still up and running but beyond that we don't call. This is just meant to be something fun and a celebration of the community."

There's only about 700 copies available and you can find one at Walmart.
