Hannah Tas has been named valedictorian for the class of 2023 at Cochrane High School.

The grade 12 student is very humble about the position, but is ready to represent her class at graduation next week.

Tas said her school has so much to offer and she was able to try her hand at a wide array of extra-curricular activities during her four years there.

"We have a really cool performing arts program, and I've been in lots of bands throughout the years. Jazz bands and the pit band for our musicals, one of my all-time favourites, it's a really cool environment. I joined lots of sports teams as well, I was co-captain of the soccer team and the rugby team, and I've dabbled in some ultimate frisbee."

She has a few more exams to finish up before enjoying her graduation ceremony on Thursday, June 29.

Her speech is nearly written and she's working on fine-tuning the final draft.

Tas has some advice for her fellow grads. "Do what makes you happy and help other people in the process. It seems simple, but sometimes it's hard to achieve. And to work hard for what you believe in."

She is enrolled in the University of Victoria and will study Biology and Psychology.
