The Cochrane and Area Humane Society is busier than ever with a surge of puppies filling the shelter.
“We have over 75 puppies in varying stages of life in the shelter right now,” says Robyn Roy, communications coordinator with the Humane Society. “We have some fresh, couple-week-old infants that are still nursing and all the way up to adoptables.”
“That's insanely high. We are full to the brim. We have no more space for these puppies to go.”
With so many puppies, the Humane Society is flying through basic supplies. “We’re running out of things like puppy food and other necessities. Our volunteers are working so hard, cleaning overtime,” says Roy.
The organization depends on the community for donations, and Roy says that support has been incredible. “Last week we had Cochrane and Calgary and the area just give us a big hug and support us so much with so many donations of wet puppy food. It was amazing.”

With summer holidays over and cooler weather settling in, Roy says it’s the perfect time to adopt. “You don’t have to worry about the puppy overheating, but it’s also not minus 30 when you’re getting up for potty training runs. It’s a perfect time to get a puppy.”
