The Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee (CISC) is hosting an ice cream fundraiser Saturday (July 29) at Abbey’s Creations in Cochrane. Starting at noon, Cochranites can purchase a sweet treat with a portion of the proceeds going to support the local non-profit.

“We do fundraising usually, once a year, but this one is out of the blue,” says the President of the CISC, Kristina Kindree. “Two of our board members on different occasions, saw ice cream and they both thought about the same thing. Both of them brought that idea back to the board at the same time.”

“It just shows how much our board members and volunteers care and are always keeping CISC at heart and mind thinking about how we can help.”

Kindree says that the money raised from the event will go a long way in welcoming immigrants to the Cochrane area.

“We're just a bunch of people who are passionate about working to support the settlement of newcomers in Cochrane. We can provide access to any services they need or any information they need in order to pursue their goals.”

“We have a culture fest event coming up on September 9th. at our annual event. It's our biggest event of the year actually and is 100 per cent free. Last year we had over 600 people. We had about 16 different cultural booths there to represent people and their heritage with free food samples.”
