In just three hours, the Cochrane Job Fair saw 438 people come through the doors at the Cochrane Lions Event Centre, more than ever before.

“Oh my goodness, it was so exciting,” says Jen Dost with Prospect Cochrane. “We were actually talking to Rob with Cochrane Economic Development and they started it about 12 years ago. He was saying when they started, they had 30 or 40 people."

“It's really exciting to see how much it's grown and even with the employers. I think this is the first year we've had a waiting list of employers for the Cochrane Job Fair.”

The fair was also a hotspot for Cochrane’s youth looking for their first job.

“I was talking to a number of people who came with teenagers actually, it's such a great opportunity. They're so nervous to be talking to these employers, face to face but the job fair really levelled the playing field. Doesn't matter who you are or your background. You're given the same opportunity the same amount of time and I think it's a really neat opportunity for people who haven't been in the workplace for a while.”

Missed the Cochrane Job Fair? Wendy Smith with Prospect Cochrane says that should not slow anyone down in their job search.

“We do have a storefront office in Cochrane and it's in the Safeway Mall. We serve people all the way up the spectrum in age and ability and what their job targets are.”

“We do one on one career advising, so that can help with resumes cover letters, just job search skills, and how to do interviews, and then we also offer online workshops twice a week.”
