The Cochrane Public Library was lucky enough to receive funding recently and is able to pass that luck on to patrons with the new Lucky Day Collection.

Library Director, Monique Fiedler-Sills explains," With support from Cochrane Foundation and Home Treasures, they gave us a matching grant amount that we could create this collection that is just one-week loans of high demand titles."

The titles in the Lucky Day Collection are non-requestable and available for a one-week-only loan. So, perhaps you are at the bottom of the waiting list for "The Spare" by Prince Harry, but you pop into the library and discover the book may be waiting on the shelf just for you in the Lucky Day Collection.

Fiedler-Sills, says, "It's just a way to skip the line, that was one of the things our patrons told us was sometimes, the lines get crazy long (which is absolutely true they do) so we wanted a way to bring those items to patrons a little faster especially for our browsing patrons. If you are not placing holds on new high-demand titles you might not see them on the shelf for a year."

The Lucky Day received enough support to run for the year. Fiedler-Sills says, " We're going to see how successful the project is (spoiler, it is very successful) then we are hoping to include it into operational funding going forward so that we will always be able to do this."

Just one more reason to pop into the Cochrane Public Library, you never know, it just might be your lucky day.
