The Cochrane Rangers Soccer Club has opened its 2023 outdoor season registration and hope to put multiple men's and women's teams in the Calgary United Soccer Association and Calgary Women's Soccer Association.

Club president Don Ross says they experienced a 25 per cent growth in their indoor season this year and hope to take that momentum into the outdoor season.

"We're happy with that, and we're trying our best to keep offering the services and the opportunity to play for anybody who wants to play."

The deadline for the competitive season is this Saturday, Mar. 4. The registration deadline for the recreational league remains open until Apr. 24.

The timelines are tighter for the competitive teams because they are required to submit their team roster to their respective leagues, explains Ross.

"We're close to where we want to be. We're not entirely there yet, though that's fairly typical to see a lot of final-day registrations."

Ross says new players are always welcome to join the adult soccer club.

“Whether you are new to soccer and want to play recreationally, want to play with your spouse in our coed program, or maybe you have some past experience and want to try playing for the competitive teams, we have something for everyone,” Ross explains.

He says they are examining the possibility of the return of the popular Cochrane Cup tournament but there are challenges.

"It takes a lot of work and we are a volunteer-based organization, so while there's quite a bit of desire to see it come back, it takes a fair bit of push and momentum to get it going."

He says league play has also been extended later into the fall, making it difficult to find a free weekend to suit potential entries.

In the meantime, they have plans to run a scale-downed tournament this season but no details have been hammered out at this point.
