The Cochrane Rockies U16B ringette team members returned home with silver medals dangling from their necks from the largest ringette tournament in Canada, last weekend.

The Rockies had a 1-2 record in the initial round of play of the Esso Golden Ring in Calgary and advanced to the playoffs on a wild card. They beat Calgary BV Lethal, 5-2, in the quarterfinals then the Calgary NW Snipers, 6-5, to earn a spot in the final against a Lethbridge entry. Lethbridge went on to win, 10-3.

The Golden Ring is a massive tournament, with 12 teams alone in the U16B division. In all, there were 187 teams participating from Manitoba through British Columbia. That amounts to 2,611 players, 1,054 coaches plus numerous referees and volunteers in a variety of capacities.

In addition to their U16B team, the Rockies entered teams in the U10S2 friendship series, U12A, U12C and U16A as well as in U19B as part of the Airdrie/Cochrane Thunder.

This was the 32nd edition of the tournament and Ringette Calgary is currently celebrating its 40th season of play.
