Winning is always good, but it's especially important when it's against a team you're battling for first place.

Last night on the road, the Gens skated into the Okotoks Bisons house and beat them 4-1 in a high-shot affair.

Talus Hume scored in the opening stanza from Brandon Aab and Slater Ransom and after that, the Gens scored the balance of their goals on the powerplay.

It was 2-0 at the end of two in a period that saw the Bisons rack up 18 minutes in penalties and a game misconduct for Nicholas Murrell.  The Bisons tried to get back in the game early in the third with what turned out to be their only goal of the game, also on a power play.  The Gens shut the gate with two more goals.

Also scoring for the Gens were Austin Keller, from Colton Wong, Brandon Aab from Keller and Ransom and Ransom from linemates Hume and Aab.

Goalie Knute Loe turned away 45 shots in another stellar performance.

With seven games left on the schedule, the Gens are in a four-way race to finish first in the south. The High River Flyers, Bisons and Coaldale Copperheads are also in the running. Every win is crucial to get the bye in the first round of playoffs and home-ice advantage.

The Gens are hosting the Strathmore Wheatland Kings tonight at the SLS Family Sports Centre. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.

Come cheer on the Gens in their hunt for first.
