Cochrane's new town council was sworn into office, Oct. 23, in a brief ceremony that was followed by a longer reception.

There was a packed house for a ceremony that saw the councillors escorted into the chambers by a piper and Cochrane RCMP Inspector Lauren Weare, where they each took their oath of office and signed their code of conduct.

Prior to that, retired chief administrative officer Lori Craig read a list of accomplishments of the previous council and presented outgoing councillors with a memento for their service. Former councillors Gaynor Levisky and Mary Lou Eckmeier attended; defeated mayor Ivan Brooker and councillor Ross Watson did not.

Selected in alphabetical order, Marni Fedeyko will be the first councillor to serve as deputy mayor, a position she holds for four months until Feb. 23, 2018. She's followed by Susan Flowers and Tara McFadden. Their role is to perform the duty of mayor if he is unavailable or if the office of the mayor is vacant.

Town committee appointments and alternates were named. They are as follows: library board, Susan Flowers with Patrick Wilson as alternate; Cochrane Planning Commission, Marni Fedeyko and Patrick Wilson; Emergency Management Committee, Jeff Genung; FCSS and Social Planning Advisory Board, Marni Fedeyko with alternate Tara McFadden; Intermunicipal Committee with Rocky View County, Jeff Genung, Tara McFadden and Alex Reed; and Subdivision and Development Appeal Board, Alex Reed and Morgan Nagel.

Representing Cochrane in established partnerships are: Bow RiverEdge Campground Society capital reinvestment subcommittee, Tara McFadden; Calgary Regional Partnership, Jeff Genung and Morgan Nagel; Rocky View Foundation, Susan Flowers; and SLS Recreation Park Society, Alex Reed.

The appointments are for an one-year period. Council holds an organizational meeting annually.
