Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from Calgary and Cochrane responded to a call involving two damaged motorcycles.

Just before 10 pm on Thursday July 7, EMS came upon the scene at Lochend Road approximately 10 km north of Big Hill Springs Road (south of Township Road 280).

The two motorcycles (each with a single rider) were travelling one in front of the other when the first driver hit a deer.

The driver, a 67 year old male, was pronounced deceased on scene and due to injuries no resuscitation was attempted.

The second driver, a 33 year old Calgary male, managed to avoid the initial collision but soon after lost control of his motorcycle. The second driver was transported by ground in stable condition to Foothills Medical Centre.

Although STARS was deployed, they were cancelled en route by EMS.

The deer died on scene as well, and alcohol nor speed are believed to be factors.

The collision remains under investigation and no names are being released at this time.
