After a  courageous 18 month battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme, Adrian Sakundiak, an active member of the Cochrane community and former CEO of Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre has died.

The current CEO of SLS, Blair Felesky shared the news in a heartfelt letter yesterday.

"When someone you admire becomes a memory…that memory becomes a treasure. It has been a difficult day for many of us at SLSFSC as we come to terms with the recent passing of Adrian Sakundiak, former CEO of Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre." says Felesky.

A charismatic leader and effective team-builder, Sakundiak took on the role of Interm Manager of the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre in November of 2018. He later became CEO of the sports facility before taking a long term medical leave.

Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is an aggressive type of malignant brain tumour.

In his letter, Felesky writes "From the outside looking in, one cannot completely understand Adrian’s (nor his family’s) most difficult journey. But what we do know is he confronted the challenge of this terrible disease with the same vigour, commitment and focus that only partially defined Adrian."

He goes on to say that Sakundiak’s "Unfettered love for family and friends, a zest for life, compassion and humour were just some of the other defining parts that led to a most purposeful life. Too young, yes. But Adrian impacted and influenced many."

Sakundiak is survived by his wife Connie, and two daughters Morgan and Taylor.
