A late-game comeback by the Rockyview Silvertips was a split-second short of forcing overtime against the Red Deer Rampage last night.

Instead, the central division title of RMLL Jr. B Tier 1 belongs to the Red Deer Rampage.

The Rampage didn't lose faith after being dominated 13-2 by the Silvertips in the opening game of the best-of-three series. They fought back with a 4-2 win on Friday night, then raised the cup here in Cochrane on Saturday night by holding on 6-5.

The Tips floor was fired up after scoring what they thought was the tying goal to force overtime, but officials determined the goal came after time had run out.

The Tips scored first, but the Rampage responded with two to take a 2-1 lead into the second. Three minutes into the third, Red Deer opened up a 6-3 lead but a determined Tips squad fought back to make it a one-goal game.

Rampage goalie Carson Wells stood on his head, facing 56 shots, about half of them in the third.

In the end, the Tips came up short after their best-ever regular season. They were the top team in their division for the second straight year and for the first time had the best record in the entire 15-team, four-division league.

The Rampage entered playoffs with a 9-10 regular season and were winless against the Silvertips. They beat the Calgary Chill two games straight to advance to the finals. The Silvertips were 16-3.
