The red-hot High River Flyers are in town tonight to challenge the Cochrane Generals in the first round of HJHL playoff action.

It's a best-of-three series that kicks off tonight at 6:45 p.m. in Totem One.

The Flyers launched a late season comeback to overcome the Strathmore Wheatland Kings to nab the final playoff berth. They enter tonight's game on a seven-game winning streak.

The Gens finished fourth in the tight south division after a pair of losses over the weekend to the Okotoks Bisons, 4-2, and Medicine Hat Cubs, 3-2.

In Okotoks on Feb. 16, the Gens fell behind 3-0 before bouncing back with a pair of goals in the third by Jordan Butz and Evan Sine. Bison Scott Brown put the game out of reach with less than four minutes to play.

Saturday night at home, a fast-paced, hard-hitting game saw the Cubs pull ahead 3-1 on a powerplay goal scored early in the third by Kyle Woolridge.  Gen Jordan Butz brought the Gens within one at the 12:48 mark of the third but Cochrane was unable to score the equalizer. Tristan Ripplinger was the other Cochrane scorer with his 39th of the season.

The top three teams in the north and south division sit out the first round. The Three Hills Thrashers have home ice advantage against the Airdrie Thunder in the first round in the north.

The Medicine Hat Cubs and Coaldale Copperheads will meet in the round two, and the defending champion Bisons face the winner of the Cochrane-High River series.

In the north, the Mountainview Colts will have home ice advantage over the Rocky Rams in round two. The Sylvan Lake Wranglers, the top north team in the regular season, will play the winner of the Airdrie-Three Hills in the other.
