The Cochrane Generals are in the midst of their longest losing streak in several seasons after dropping a pair over the weekend.

The Gens fell 5-3 to the Mountainview Colts on home ice, Oct. 20, before losing 6-1 to the Coaldale Copperheads on the road, Oct. 21.

The Colts continued to be a thorn in the side of the Gens. The Gens outshot them 40 to 27 but couldn't find the back of the net.

Mountainview scored two goals in the early going before Austin Keller responded with a powerplay goal from Brandn Aab and Ayrton Chapman. The second saw the Colts go ahead 4-1 before the Gens' Harry Olser score from Jaedan Dowling and Jordan Fisher. Scott Shugg got his fifth of the season from Carter Cugnet and Talus Hume, but the Colts fired one more in to seal the deal.

In the second game of the weekend, the Copperheads scored five before the Gens got on the board with their only goal late in the second. Slater Ransom scored from Brandon Aab and Brad Bergevin. It was a rough affair and by the end of the first the Gens had accumulated 40 minutes in penalties to the Coppeheads two minutes. Plus both Will Gretton and Colton Wong received game misconducts for fighting.

Not wanting to be outdone, the Copperheads were the only penalized teams in the last two periods, racking up 52 minutes in the bad boy box and losing a pair of skaters for fighting.

The losses have dropped the Gens to fifth in the south division, one point ahead of the Strathmore Wheatland Kings, who have two games in hand.

The Gens are back on the road to Coaldale for a rematch with the Copperheads and return here for a pair, Nov. 4 and 5. They will face the south division leading Okotoks Bisons on Nov. 4 before once again attempting to tame the snakes on Nov. 5. It will be the first regular season appearances of these two south division heavy weights.
