Another spike of 1,076 new cases have been reported in the past 24 hours in Alberta. Of those new cases, 69.49 per cent of the cases are in unvaccinated residents.

Hospitalizations increased by 26 cases for a total of 284 while ICU admissions increased by two for a total of 59. Of those 284 patients, 227 are unvaccinated, 11 are partially vaccinated and 46 are fully vaccinated.

One additional death was added for a total of 2,356.

There are now 8,496 active cases in the province with a positivity rate of 9.01 per cent.

Vaccination rates have trickled and remain far off the percentage needed for herd immunity which experts suggest needs to be at 85 per cent or more.

Currently, 77.5 per cent of the population has received one shot of the COVID vaccine while 69 per cent of Albertans are fully immunized.

Cochrane increased by four cases for a total of 42 active COVID-19 cases. Rocky View County added five cases for a total of 62 cases.

Calls are growing for the government to address the surging numbers in the province.

Premier Kenney who is on vacation, has spoken publicly since August 9, 2021.
