The Jr. 'B' Silvertips snapped a three-game losing streak, June 24, with a 16-7 when over the Regina Barracudas (better known as Fish) but there's an even bigger game on the horizon for the team.

Head Coach Tyler Waycott says a win this Thursday night is crucial to stay in the race for home turf advantage in the first round of playoffs in the central division of the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL).

The Tips play the Chill here June 28 at the SLS Family Sports Centre at 8 p.m. and Waycott believes they are due for a win against the team who has won their first two meetings by narrow margins.

"It would be great to finish second and have home floor in the first round," says Waycott. "It's a morale boost to finish higher in the standings than we have in the past. So far we will, but we want to keep pushing, we want to set the standards for years to come."

There's a lot of parity in the league this year, particularly in the central division where a team can win on any given night.

"If you look at our division, everybody's beating everybody. We're in a very, very tight race."

The Shamrocks are poised to run away with the south division while the Edmonton Warriors are tops in the north, closely followed by Fort Saskatchewan, and the Winnipeg Blizzards have a stranglehold on the east. Red Deer is tops in the central division but have now been beaten by both the Silvertips and the Chill and only the Olds Mavericks are out of contention.

The Silvertips ended a losing streak that saw them lose to the Chill, then the Rampage. On June 23, the team let a second period 7-6 lead slip away against the Shamrocks and lost 12-8.

"There was a bunch of little mental breakdowns that the Shamrocks capitalized on. But on a quick turnaround from last night to a late morning game it was great to come out and win, especially on our Memorial Game. it was a great game for us to win to get back on track."

Now, four of the Tips' last five regular-season games are at home at Totem One. The other is on the road against the Mavericks.

Making Memorial Game Special

Winning the team's annual Memorial Game made Sunday's victory special for the Silvertips

Annually the team holds a memorial game to remember Jaydan Sommerfeld and Jordan McKinnon. Both of their numbers have been retired and are hanging from the rafters.

Nolan Oakey was recognized as the top midget player in his first season as a junior. Oakey leads the team in scoring with an impressive 46 points in 11 games

Tanner Lam received the club's scholarship award.
