The Cochrane Generals made the best of their opportunities to outpace the Rocky Rams, 6-2, on Jan. 13.

The Gens limited the Rams to one goal in the first and second while scoring two in each period for the win that leaves them with control over fourth place in the south division of HJHL. In the third, they mustered just four shots but scored on two of them.

The win keeps Cochrane within striking distance of the third-place Coaldale Copperheads and second-place Medicine Hat Cubs.

"When we play the north, we've got to come out on top," says Gens head coach Kurtis Jones.

The Rams are a distant second in the north to the Sylvan Lake Wranglers, who have a 23-point edge in their division.

Jordan Butz, Christopher Ugbaja, Diago Coelho, Evan Sine, Andrew Guss and Stephen Jones all scored for the Gens, with Ugbaja and Coelho also earning assists. James Quaife notched three assists and Declan Kinch and Tristan Ripplinger had one.

The Jan. 12 home game against the Ponoka Stampeders was postponed due the extreme cold.

The Gens hit the road to Medicine Hat on Friday night to face the Cubs, then host the High River Flyers at Totem One on Saturday.

The Gens have 11 games left in their regular schedule.
