First Erik Garber, now Knute Loe.

The young goalies of the Cochrane Generals continue to receive the praise of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL).

Loe, 17, was named the HJHL's player of the week for helping the Generals win two crucial games last weekend.

The Cochrane product backstopped the Generals to a 2-0-0 record last week, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and a .958 save percentage along the way. Going back one step, he's started for the Gens in their last three games, all wins, and on the last 94 shots he faced has allowed only three goals and earned a shutout.

Loe is currently 5-1-0 on the season with a 2.55 goals-against average, .918 save-percentage.

Having to choose between two solid goaltenders is a good problem to have for Gens coaching staff.

Each game it's a tough decision to choose a starter.  The team hesitated to put Loe back in nets after he shut down the Cubs, fearing he would be riding an emotional high. Loe's performance against the Okotoks Bisons, though, quickly set aside those concerns. He practically walked away with another shutout against the talented Bisons snipers, turning away 45 of 46 shots. It took a powerplay goal with four minutes remaining to rob him of the statistic.

Fewer pucks flew his way in the Gens tight win against the Strathmore Wheatland Kings the next night, but they were deadly. Loe stymied many two, three and even four shot efforts by the Kings, particularly in the third period. Shutting down the Kings in the third period was crucial in the Gens slim 3-2 victory.

The young goalie started the season with the Grand Forks Border Bruins juniors before returning to Cochrane to join the Gens. In the fall, he reported to the WHL's Lethbridge Hurricanes training camp and was included on their preseason roster. Loe played all his minor hockey in Cochrane with the Bow Valley Timberwolves, with the exception of his one season with the Airdrie Xtreme AAA bantam.

Their other young goalie Erik Garber, 18, was named player of the week in November. He currently has a 2.87 GAA and has earned three shutouts in 21 starts.
