MacKay’s Ice Cream will be celebrating its 75th anniversary in style as the Parade Marshal for the 55th Annual Labour Day Parade.

Cochrane and Area Events Society announced the family will be leading the parade held Monday, September 4, 2023, in Cochrane.

"We had no doubt since last year that they would be the parade marshal this year," says Erika Richards, secretary with Cochrane & Area Events Society (CAES).

"We sent them an invitation earlier this year and they said they would be very pleased to do so. They're such a great draw to Cochrane, any given Sunday there's a line snaked down the road of the faithful coming for the ice cream."

The world-renowned ice cream shop is currently run by Meghan Tayfel and her husband Mark, the third generation of the family.

"They'll be the first to hoist the brand new banner and lead the parade in the honourary position, but they do have a really important job after the parade and that is all the entry fees that are collected are donated back to a charity of the Mackay's choice."

The recipient of the donation has yet to be announced.

Registration for the 55th Annual Labour Day Parade is open and can be found here.
