Cochrane Lions Club president Chris Connon says donating to the Cochrane Search and Rescue was an easy decision for the service club to reach.

Yesterday, they presented Search and Rescue with $2,500 as a way to thank them for the important role they played in staging what turned out to be the biggest rodeo dance ever at the Lions Club Labour Day Weekend Rodeo.

Connon says Search and Rescue showed great patience and flexibility while the club navigated the challenges of a last-minute change in COVID restrictions that saw the dance moved outdoors.

"Search and Rescue had agreed to help us earlier in the summer when we were looking for volunteers, but this turned into a next-level thing, and they stepped up to the plate. It ended up being the biggest dance we've ever had," says Connon.

He says they are looking forward to continuing the relationship.

Search and Rescue vice-president Evan Knox says they've already to agreed to work with the Lions again.

He says it was fun to lend a hand, and it was a great opportunity to connect with the community.

"We're almost 100 per cent funded by donations, so any donation that we get is huge for our operating costs. So this $2,500 is huge for us, not to mention the community involvement. It was awesome."
