The Cochrane Public Library will be taking a step back in time this Saturday.

The popular Medieval Day is returning after drawing huge crowds in its debut last year. Some of the highlights include Fighting Knights and a Viking Village, where young and old alike can get a taste of what life was like in days of yore. There will be knights and vikings battling with swords, shields and axes, and onlookers will be encouraged to cheer for their favourites.

Other attractions include Butterfield Acres petting zoo, bouncy castles, photo booths and craft stations. Food trucks will also be on location, as well as the Fallen Timber Meadery, serving up refreshing beverages, in keeping with the theme of the day.

A new addition to the event this year will be the passionate Scottish Storyteller, Calum Lykan, who entertains his listeners with words of myth, legend, folklore and stories from Scotland and Far Away Lands.

Library program co-ordinator Gail Ames is very excited about the upcoming event and invites guests to put their best medieval costumes on, to help with the spirit and fun of the day.

“Try to wear a medieval outfit if you can. You will feel better and feel like you just fit in.”

This free event goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 22.
