The George McDougall Mustangs have successfully defended their Rocky View divisional football title with a 36-5 landslide win over the Cochrane Cobras.

The win has moved them up to fourth in the Tier I provincial high school rankings and dropped the Cobras to sixth in Tier II.

Up next for the Cobras is the first round of Tier II provincials against Strathmore, who are now ranked ninth after losing to Holy Trinity Academy Knights, 50-0, over the weekend.

The Mustangs play the Foothills Falcons on Nov. 4 in their first round of provincials.

Up until the last two seasons, the Cobras had won the Rocky View divisional championship eight seasons in a row. They also hold the record for the most consecutive provincial championships in Alberta high school football. Their seven-year streak came to an end in 2022 when they challenged for the Tier I provincial champion, losing by just one point in the south final.

The Bow Valley Bobcats host the Chestermere Lakes in their final game of the season on Thurs. Nov. 2 in the consolation round-robin. Kick-off is at 4 p.m. at the SLS Legacy Sports Field.

The Bert Church Chargers pulled out of a game scheduled for last Thursday in Cochrane.
