A flag-raising, bridge lighting and walk through the Historic Downtown are among activities planned to observe National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30.

The town has provided an overview of what's in store. 

  • Flag Raising
    Join the Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane & Area for a flag-raising at 5 p.m. on Sept. 28 (Cochrane RancheHouse, parking lot).
  • Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge
    The bridge will be lit with orange lights on the evening of Sept. 30.
  • Truth and Reconciliation Walk: On Sept. 30 at 4 p.m., walk along Cochrane’s Historic Downtown Main Street in recognition of truth and reconciliation. The walk starts at the Social Spot, #103, 609 1st St. W., and culminates at the Legacy Statue, across from MacKay’s Ice Cream. Attendees are encouraged to wear orange.
  • Truth and Reconciliation Booth
    Sept. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Social Spot.
  • Orange Shirt Day
    Wear orange on both Sept. 28 to coincide with the flag-raising that day, and then again on Sept. 30.

The Town of Cochrane is closing all of its facilities on Sept. 30 to provide staff the opportunity to reflect on the legacy of residential schools and to educate themselves.
