Cochranites keep your shovel close as Old Man Winter throws another winter storm our way.

Heather Pimiskern, Meteorologist with Environment Canada, shares although today (March 1) was the first day of Meteorological Spring, it doesn't feel or look like it. "We are anticipating the snow to start this evening (March 1) and it's going to be fairly consistent in nature until Saturday afternoon when the low starts to pull off toward the east. We are anticipating for the Cochrane area upwards of 25 centimetres or so. We have 5 to 10 in the forecast for tonight, 10 for tomorrow and an additional 2 to 4 tomorrow night."

Besides the snow, the wind may be an issue as well in some regions. "It would be more towards the Edmonton area that we would anticipate the potential blowing snow, however, we can't rule out that areas around Calgary won't experience blowing snow as well."

As far as spring-like temperatures coming our way, don't get too excited. "Over the next couple days -5 to -10 degrees Celsius and that will be fairly persistent through next week and the weekend before we see potentially warmer temperatures return to the area."

All the snow will once again wreak havoc on our local roads and commuter highways, and Pimiskern predicts visibility will be reduced. "With the deteriorating conditions road conditions will be precarious and even dangerous in some situations, so if you can postpone travel we would encourage that."
