There is a downside to the exceptionally warm weather we've been experiencing.

The town has just announced the ice surfaces at Mitford Pond and the Tim Bannister Memorial Rink will not be open for public skating over the holiday weekend due to the mild weather.

Officials say park staff will continue to monitor conditions and reassess opening when temperatures are more favourable for ice making.

We're forecasted to drop to only zero degrees tonight with a high of 4 tomorrow and overnight low of minus six. Saturday a high of minus one with an overnight low of minus 11 and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day a high of zero and slightly below zero overnight.

Next week we're expected to have highs above zero until Saturday, when it dips to a mere minus two.
