While the second Cochrane Wide Clean Up was not as successful as spring, organizers are still optimistic.

Tim Giese, co-organizer and President of Cochrane Environmental Action Committee, says for a first year event he was pretty happy.

"Every little bit helps, this was our first year and we went from zero community cleanups to two events in one year, that is pretty unprecedented. One was highly successful, and the other one not so successful, but there is lessons learned from both and we will take an opportunity to reflect back on them and say what works well. We did this on a shoestring budget as well; when you see what we accomplished, I think there is a lot to be proud of."

In the past, service groups, and schools have performed cleanups but this is a first time initiative to get residents and businesses from all over Cochrane on board; Giese adds, it is an opportunity to come together as a community.

"I think when people see what we picked up in two cleanups they will say this is simple, this is easy, and a great way to take pride in my community and show that I care for Cochrane."

Although this clean up only collected roughly 30 bags of trash, making an effort to have less trash on the ground is better than nothing.

"It might encourage people to say if I see a wrapper blowing in the breeze or I see a cup used for coffee somewhere it might just encourage one person or two people to go this is unacceptable I am going to do something about it. I am hoping people will learn from this and serve as an inspiration in the long run."

The third Cochrane Wide Clean up will occur on Saturday April 22, 2017, as part of an Earth Day celebration.
