A Calgary man has died after losing control of his motorcycle in a remote part of Kananaskis Country yesterday morning. 

A group of motorcyclists left Calgary to go for a Sunday drive at around 11 a.m. and were travelling north on Highway 40, approximately 13 kms north of Hwy. 541 when two riders lost control and entered the ditch.

The rest of the group of riders were able to then stop.

A 47-year-old man from Calgary was declared deceased on scene. 

A 40-year-old man from Calgary was transported via STARS to hospital with serious injuries.

Initially, Cochrane RCMP said STARS was unable to safely land because of the thick smoke in the area. 

Kananaskis Emergency Services, Kananaskis Conservation Officer, Turner Valley RCMP, Cochrane RCMP, AHS ground ambulance and STARS all responded to the crash.

Cochrane RCMP are investigating.

Hwy. 40 has reopened again for travel.
