Mark your calendars, and start your training for the Great Cochrane Outhouse Races.

The annual event sees teams of five race their creative commodes up and down historic downtown Cochrane every year.

It's set to go on September 17.

Chris Heier with the Rocky Mountain Rotary club said each team needs an outhouse and five team members to race up and down Main Street chuckwagon style.

"The idea of it is with your outhouse, you're going to have one person sitting on the crapper and then four people holding the outhouse on the outside doing the running. So that's basically you're team, and that's how you're going to try to win."

But the race isn't just for the number one and number two finishers, there's other categories to win in too.

"We'll have our own panel internally that will determine who will be the funniest outhouse. You can do whatever, you can dress funny, you can run your outhouse around the track funny. The skies the limit as to how you want to achieve the funniest outhouse."

There will be food trucks and a lemonade stand on site for spectators to enjoy.

Heier is hoping to see 20-30 teams register.

The registration fee is a donation to the Rocky Mountain Rotary Club, who will then donate the money back to organizations in need in the community.
