The naming of the new Bow River bridge appears to have captured the attention of the community.

With the Feb. 28 online voting deadline fast approaching, nearly 2,000 people have provided input on which of the 11 names on the list of finalists should be used.

There's a large variety of names making the list from suggestions received from residents earlier in the process. Systematically, it was reduced from an initial 213 names, 39 of which didn't make it to the second round because they did not fit the criteria.

For those who have not yet voted, the names you can vote upon, listed in order of popularity in the last round, are Moore's Crossing, Cowboy Crossing, Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge, Chief Walking Buffalo (Tatanga Mani), Helping Hands Bridge, Veterans Bridge, James Walker Bridge, Bow Bend Bridge, Oyade Bridge, Cochrane Crossing and Riversong Bridge.

A brief description of each proposed name is listed on the town's Let's Talk Cochrane website where the majority of people have been voting, Paper surveys are also available at the Visitor Information Centre, Seniors on the Bow and the Nan Boothby Memorial Library.

There's only one vote allowed per Cochrane resident. Those voting are required to list their name and confirm they are only voting once before selecting one. The proposed names are listed alphabetically.

The final name will be subject to consultation before being announced.
