The Cochrane Piranhas had a stellar showing last weekend (August 11/12), at the Alberta Summer Swim Association (ASSA) Regional Championships in Calgary.

Out of fifty-six swimmers, thirty-seven will be making their way to compete in the Provincial Championships being held in Edmonton this upcoming weekend.

Head Coach, Breanna Hendriks, says she was absolutely amazed at the swimmers' performances. "It was crazy, I was blown away. It was so exciting that I pretty much lost my voice over the weekend from cheering so much."

One of the top highlights was returning to Cochrane with 57 individual medals (14 Gold, 28 Silver, and 15 Bronze) and 15 Relay medals (6 Gold, 5 Silver, and 4 Bronze), says Hendriks, who believes this was the most successful Regional competition of her coaching career. "This is my fifth year now, and I think this is the most medals we have ever won. We also have a number of swimmers qualifying for Provincials."

Hendriks says her coaching team definitely needs credit for the outstanding results. "The coaches did a really great job for making sure the kids were really ready for every single event and that makes a huge difference. We work really well as a team in order to make sure the kids are going to do the best job they possibly can."

And lastly, it comes down to the swimmers. "The kids wanted it and then they just went for it."

The Piranhas trained last night and will train one last time tonight (August 15) before heading to Edmonton for Provincials for the multi-day competition.
