A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Cochrane area. 

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could cause very strong winds and hail.

"Strong thunderstorms are likely to develop along the foothills this afternoon and move toward the east. There is also a slight chance of a tornado this afternoon, mainly along the central foothills." reads a statement from Environment Canada and Climate Change Canada.

Areas included in the watch include Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, and Sundre.

Cochrane remains under a Heat Warning as we head into the Canada Day long weekend.
