An independent feature film has started production in Cochrane.

“We're working on our first proper feature film and we're looking for 70 to 80 minutes” explains Chance Productions founder Ryan Gourley. “It's going to be mostly filmed here in Cochrane, some in Calgary and it's called Triality.”

Triality is an indie drama that follows the lives of three young adults, Joseph, Rylee and Summer in the summer after graduating high school year and just going through their lives dealing with drama, mental health and stuff like that.”

Ryan Gourley is a 2022 graduate from SAIT where he took the Film and Video Production Program and prior to that, he graduated from Cochrane High School in 2020.

Chance Productions has released several shorter projects shot in the Cochrane area but has been slowly growing the length of its films to reach this point.

“Last year, we moved into the longer short-form films where there were 20 to 25 minutes and those were big jumps. Those took weeks and weeks of planning because a quick five-minute, you can do that in a weekend if you really want to.”

“This film, even the writing took a long time. It was written a couple of years ago, with several drafts sent to friends. Casting took a while, we put out a casting call and that's something we've never done before. Our shot list is gonna be massive, finding locations too. We have a party scene that we want to do, so we're gonna need a lot of extras.”

Shooting on “Triality” is set to begin this month and a Kickstarter has been launched to help cover some costs with production.

“Filmmaking always costs money, even the smallest stuff. You still got to buy food for the day and for the actors. We're just trying to raise a bit of funds that will hopefully help cover the costs of mostly just probably food for the cast, props here and there and then a big one is film festival submissions because those can cost a lot.”

“We're going to make it regardless because we're committed to doing that.”
