A hard rain may have fallen but it didn't prevent the Cochrane Rangers Firsts open team from securing a 6-2 win over Callies Calglen United, Aug. 23, to keep a firm grip on third in Division 4C of the Calgary United Soccer Association (CUSA).

The Firsts have five games remaining in their schedule and two of those games are against the top-seeded 10-1 Navua and second place Wizards. The Rangers have eight wins, three losses and three ties (8-3-3).

Assistant manager Angelo Papadoulis believes they will climb higher in the standings by the end of the season.

"We should definitely finish second unless we have too many injuries," he says.

The team has six new players to complement a solid core of veterans from last season.

"We're doing well good," he says. "With a lot of new players, it takes a little time to adjust."

This was the Rangers second win over the Callies this season. They won 3-0 in their previous meeting.

The Rangers are shooting for a win against the South Boys this Thursday night (Aug. 29) on the Rangers East pitch. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
