Environment Canada is advising residents to keep their eyes to the sky this afternoon.

"Conditions will be favourable for the development of funnel clouds today." according to the national weather service.

Funnel clouds are produced by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms.

The good news is, this weak rotation is not typically a danger near the ground.

But, there is a chance the rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

The weather alert is in effect for Cochrane, Airdrie, Olds and Sundre.
