Fiona Gilbert has been sworn in to begin her second term on the Rocky View School Division's Board of Trustees representing Cochrane.

Gilbert is looking forward to the next four years and she's anxious to get to work. With one term under her belt, she's one of three veterans on the eight-member board.

"It's now official and now we can get to work as a team here and as a board moving forward. It's a little less overwhelming this time around as the first time but I'm looking forward to the work we have to do as a board."

"We've got a lot of work and advocacy to do as a board for the fastest growing division here in Alberta. We are expecting some changes to the School Act in the next few months so we have our work cut out for us to continue to make Rocky View a great school division for our students."

There was a major shuffle in the board's wards for the 2017 election. Airdrie is now being represented by three trustees. Also, newly-elected Ward 5 trustee Judi Hunter is representing a large geographical area that includes Springbank, Bragg Creek, Jumping Pound, Bearspaw, Westbrook and rural Cochrane.

The other trustees sworn in were: Shali Baziuk in Ward 1 (Chestermere), Patty Sproule for Ward 2 (Langdon, Indus), Todd Brand, Melyssa Bowen and Jim Forest in Ward 3 (Airdrie) and Norma Lang in Ward 4 (Crossfield, Beiseker, Kathyrn).

Superintendent Greg Luterbach joined Associate Superintendent Darrell Couture in welcoming the 8 trustees that will form the RVS Board during the Oct. 24 ceremony.
