A lottery ticket was sold in Western Canada over the weekend and it's worth one million dollars. The Lotto 6/49 draw took place on Saturday, November 4.

While the Gold Ball Prize Draw, worth $30 million had no winner, the white ball which was drawn with the number 26185561-03 was indeed sold to someone very lucky. And with the number of area winners in the past few weeks, it may not be far-fetched that another millionaire is in Airdrie or the surrounding areas.

Recently, Airdrie resident, Rene Drouin won $100,000 on his LOTTO MAX and EXTRA ticket.

“I brought my ticket to the store and scanned it,” he said. “The machine started making a sound like ringing bells – my wife and I were shocked!”

The winner said he and his wife have one major plan for their recent windfall.

“We’re going to pay off our mortgage,” he said. “If there’s anything left after that, maybe we’ll go to McDonalds to get a hamburger.”

Apart from Drouin, a Cochrane resident won over $100,000. Scott Makin had a lunch hour he will never forget.

The Cochrane local took a moment to check his LOTTO 6/49 ticket and discovered he won $100,005 on the September 27 EXTRA draw.

“I was out for lunch with the guys,” he said while claiming his prize. “I scanned the ticket on the Lotto Spot app and yelled out! I’m going to put it all into savings for now!”

Makin purchased his winning LOTTO 6/49 and EXTRA ticket at Canpro Gas & Propane (North), located at 2464 23 Avenue NE in Calgary.

And then there was the Banff local who seemed to have luck on his side - twice. Dale MacMillan first won $21,928.90 on POKER LOTTO and ALL IN on February 24, and just over a month later on March 31 he won on the game again, this time taking home a $141,174.70 prize.

“I couldn’t believe it!” said MacMillan while claiming his prize earlier this month after holding on to his winning ticket since March. “It’s kind of amazing!”

The winner said he hasn’t made any big plans for his windfall yet, but has an idea to get himself started.

“At this point, I’m only thinking about investing for my retirement,” he said.
