There's a good reason why organizers of this Saturday's Cochrane Fair recommend coming early and staying late.

When the gates open at 11 a.m. they'll be nonstop events throughout the afternoon that will be capped off with the 20th edition of the Cochrane Classic Bullriding, followed by a barn dance.

"We really hope that the community comes out and has a good time," says Chair Leslie Hunt. "Although it's a scaled-down version this year, it's definitely a full day."

At the outdoor arena, you'll be able to watch kids try their hands at Mutton Busting, be thrilled by the Wheatland Trick Riders, and cheer on your favourite mini chuck. That's all before the 20th edition of the Cochrane Classic Bullriding in the evening, which is a separate ticket event.

"That's a phenomenal event because it features some fantastic bulls and professional bullriders. We're hoping the guys from Brazil can make it in here, but if not, they're still the best of the west as far as I'm concerned."

A barn dance follows, featuring country artist Chris LeBlanc and his band.

The plaza features roaming entertainers, fun activities, food vendors, pony rides, and more.

By popular demand, the SuperDogs are back. They'll be giving four performances and each show features the amazing athletic skills of these dogs and their handlers.

There's a safety activity zone that includes a Junior Firefighter Challenge, sure to be a hit with any youth who wonders what it would be like to be a firefighter.

Alberta Health Services protocols are being closely followed. There are handwashing stations, and people are encouraged social distance.

"Although 99 per cent of our things are outside, we're still saying you don't have to be sitting that close, we have lots of seating and those kinds of things. So, we're following the AHS guidelines as closely as we possibly can."

Hunt salutes local businesses for getting behind the fair.

"We're just blown away by the support and the positive attitude from the businesses in Cochrane. We definitely couldn't be doing it without them. We really appreciate everybody standing behind us, so thank you, Cochrane!"
