St. Tim's Thunder Track and Field team did not disappoint at last Saturday's (May 27) CSHSAA City Track & Field Championships.

Travis Cummings, Thunder Head Coach, says despite competing the day after graduation ceremonies the ten member team did not disappoint, with many athletes achieving personal bests.

"Sophia Nowicki will be attending her 3rd ASAA Track & Field Championships, qualifying in the SG 3000m, she will be looking to defend her silver medal from last year. Sophia also placed 6th in the 1500m, a solid showing on very tired legs. St. Tim’s also has two alternates this year if any of the top 3 finishers cannot attend. Josh Novak placed 4th in the IB 3000m, and Madison Cruickshank also placed 4th in the SG 400m, Maddy also placed 7th in the SG 200m final."

Other top finishes seen at the championships were an 8th place showing from Mikenna Spademan in the JG triple jump, making the final Spademan jumped a personal best of 9.24 metres. Newcomer Garett Van Roon placed 6th in the IB 3000m and 7th in the 1500m with two PB showings. Scott Delsing placed 6th in the JB 3000m and 10th in the JB 1500m. Eric Swedlo placed 9th in both the JB high jump and 3000m. Maggie Brolsma placed 12th in the JG 3000m. Finishing off the day was the Open 4x400m team of Josh Novak, Trey Felesky, Talleiv Bredeson, and Garett Van Roon; who placed overall.

Cummings was pretty happy with results, and is looking forward to see how Nowicki races today (June 2).

Nowicki has mixed feelings as she heads to the start line. "In all honestly, I'm concerned. I learned to control my nerves over the years, but I feel pressured this year, mainly by myself. There's a lot I want to accomplish with track this season, and I might be pushing myself too quickly. I'm not going to plan my race, because every race is different, I'm just going to run for the situation. I have felt good this week during training and recovery runs, so I'm ready for the race. It going to hurt, it always does, but this is why I have trained for six years."

ASAA Track & Field Championships go today and tomorrow (June 2nd and 3rd) at Foote Field in Edmonton with Nowicki racing at 10:20 am.
