One driver screened for impairment failed in last night's multi-agency patrol in Cochrane.

In what was one of the coldest nights of the year, 13 officers conducted a roving checkstop from approximately 7 p.m. to midnight, says Sgt. Vinnie Hetu, commanding officer of the Cochrane/Bow Valley RCMP traffic unit.

He released the statistics this morning.

  • IRS Fail: 1
  • IRS Warn/ Novice: 8
  • Suspended driver: 1
  • Outstanding Warrants: 3
  •  Violation Tickets issued: 48

It's the latest of the checkstops conducted by enforcement agencies in the Calgary area since Dec. 3 to get impaired drivers off the road. Agencies are also teaming up elsewhere in the province.

Participating agencies were Cochrane and Bow Valley RCMP traffic units, Cochrane RCMP detachment, Calgary Police, Alberta Sheriffs highway patrol, Tsuut'ina Police, and CP Police.
